Most people fall into one of these situations:

1) You know your dog needs eyes-on guidance before a class

If your dog is fearful, easily overwhelmed, or you’re concerned a group setting may be too much right now, a consultation is the appropriate first step. Proceed to consultation availability.

2) You’re fairly sure where your dog fits

If you’ve reviewed the Cornerstone phases and feel confident about placement, you do not need a consultation.

Dogs experiencing aggression, severe reactivity, or severe separation distress require a veterinary behavioral workup before booking any service.

Your veterinarian must be specifically informed of the behavioral concern and evaluate your dog for medical conditions that may cause, contribute to, or intensify the behavior. A routine annual exam, wellness visit, or general statement that your dog is healthy does not meet this requirement.

The appropriate medical workup is determined by your veterinarian based on your dog's history and presentation. Depending on the case, this may include pain assessment, bloodwork, diagnostic imaging such as X-rays, or other testing.

Before booking, we must receive a veterinary case report documenting:

—> The behavioral concern discussed with your veterinarian.
—> Relevant examination findings and medical assessment.
—> Diagnostic testing recommended and performed.
—> Identified or suspected medical contributors.
—> Recommendations relevant to behavior modification.

The veterinary report must be received and reviewed by The Thinking K9 before a consultation or training appointment may be booked.

Training cannot fix pain or illness. Medical conditions can cause or intensify behavioral problems, and behavior modification cannot resolve an untreated medical cause. All medical contributors must be appropriately investigated before behavioral treatment can proceed.

Email is only used for scheduling questions, program clarification, and help choosing the appropriate next step.

Because behavior is highly context-dependent, we’re not able to provide training or behavior guidance by email.
